As the spouse of a South African, there are various possibilities available for temporary (2-3 years at a time) and permanent (lifelong) residence in South Africa. Life partners are seen as spouses too, if they can prove that they live together and are committed to each other and are not involved in any other relationship or still legally married. It is possible to submit the application in South Africa or in the South African mission of your country of residence. In the case of submission in South Africa you would enter the country and receive an ordinary visitor's visa for 90 days or less at the port of entry. You can then apply locally for the relevant visa.
